Jana-Maria Hartmann: Literary Scout
Following twelve years in the publishing industry, Jana-Maria launched JMH Literary Scouting in 2015.
Born in Germany, she studied Comparative Literature at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and the Sorbonne in Paris and is a graduate of the Columbia Publishing Course. After internships at Verlagsgruppe Random House in Munich and Bettina Schrewe’s scouting agency in New York, she moved to the German capital to work as an editor for Berlin Verlag for more than six years.
Focusing on acquisitions from the US, the UK and Scandinavia, Jana-Maria has built a wide network of agents and publishers. Throughout her career, she has gained extensive knowledge of the international book market and an in-depth understanding of the US publishing business that have shaped her professional instincts as a highly versatile reader.
While Jana-Maria has mostly worked with fictional texts, she spends a lot of her free time reading non-fiction. She lives in Chicago.
